Name: Michael Kirk Douglas
Born: 25 September 1944
Occupation: Actor, Producer
Michael Douglas was the first born child of actor Kirk Douglas and Diana Dill, an actress who hailed from Bermuda. He was born and raised in New Jersey and later attended the University of California at Santa Barbara. He received a bachelor’s degree in drama in 1968 and soon after began working in small films and eventually ended up on the television hit The Streets of San Francisco.
Douglas had been given the movie rights to One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by his famous father and although he was tempted to play the leading role, he passed and produced it instead. He ended up winning an Academy Award for Best Picture as the producer, while Jack Nickolson won for Best Actor. More small acting roles in movies followed until he hit acting gold with the romantic comedic adventure Romancing the Stone, starring alongside Kathleen Turner.
More success soon followed with the hits Fatal Attraction, Wall Street, and Basic Instinct. Throughout his career he has been nominated for and won many awards, including four Golden Globes and two Academy Awards.
In his personal life he was married to Diandra Douglas from 1977 to 2000, and had one child. Shortly after getting divorced he married Catherine Zeta-Jones that same year, in November of 2000. They are still married to this day and have two children together. In August of 2010 it was announced Michael had throat cancer and after intense treatment he was in remission in 2011.
With Michael’s long list of achievements it makes sense that his bank account looks like an achievement in and of itself. We estimate Michael Douglas’ net worth at $188,000,000 dollars (117,885,000 GBP).
So how much is $188 million dollars really?
Since Michael’s wife has loyally stood by his side through thick and thin, we think he may want to consider buying her a really spectacular ring as a thank you. For the small price of $10.8 million dollars, he could easily purchase the rare pink diamond ring for her 17 times.
Or if he wanted to be a little more practical, he could pay the average chemotherapy bill of $15,000 for 12,500 people and still have some spare change left over. Not to mention, it may just give him the karma he needs.
