Name: Michael Sylvester Gardenzio Stallone
Born: July 6th, 1946
Occupation: Actor, Director and Screen Writer
Born in NYC to parents in a troubled marriage, Sly’s start in life was less than ideal. Between foster homes and missing his parents, his childhood was not what you would call happy. However, Sly apparently had a talent for writing, and when he became a broke adult living in NY with only about $50 in the world, he sold a script he wrote. This script is known to movie buffs as Paradise Alley and it sold for $100. There was only brief rejoicing for this as he still struggled with money, and once evicted from his apartment took a job as a soft core porno star in a low budget movie. For this he was paid $200 for just 2 days of work. This was 1970 so that was a good chunk of change for so little work. However, life got better for Sly when he landed an off Broadway role in 1971. His face was now out there.
As he passed through the 70’s, his luck picked up with small movie roles here and there. Finally, in 1976, he hit the big time with Rocky. This is the role he will forever be known and loved for. It not only made him worth a lot of money, but it also makes him a face that no one would ever forget. Today his net worth is about $275 million dollars – which is a far cry from the young man in NYC with 50 bucks in his pocket!
So how much is $275 million really?
Sly has inspired many young men to try their luck with boxing. With the amount of money he has, he could afford to glove 4,584,097 people with mid priced boxing gloves. Imagine getting a pair of gloves from Rocky himself!
Living in NYC and being broke is hard. The best food to get in NYC when you only have a couple of bucks is pizza. A slice of cheese pizza at most pizzerias goes for $2.99. Just think, if Sly had this money back in his lean days he could have gotten himself 91,973,244 slices of cheese pizza! As a New Yorker, all I have to say is YUMMY! [editors note: 92 million slices of pizza would still only cover 1/10th of Central Park].
